|A scene from chapter two of my fic The Invincible Rose, in which Belle and her daughter are attending Chip's wedding in the ballroom. Rosalie's nervous about the outcome of the evening, while Belle just thinks she's shy. Enjoy!|
Achromatic 1.6Mr. Stephens dozed lightly behind the check-in desk. If he heard them shuffle through the lobby, he gave no sign. Brian felt a mooment of regret that he'd wasted money paying for a full week, but let it go. Not like he could ask the crotchety old man for a refund.Achromatic 1.6 by KayQy
He peeked out the blinds, but didn't see the pimp anywhere. "See anyone you don't want to meet?" he whispered. Rainbow peeked out and shook her head. "Okay, then, let's go."
"Wait." She darted over to the old man and left the key on the desk in front of him, then rejoined Brian at the door. "Okay."
"Turn left if you want to get a head start on Leorio's goons," Mr. Stephens said without opening his eyes. "And remember, he's new, but he's not a complete idiot."
Brian stared a moment. "Thanks," he finally said, but the old man didn't respond, and Rainbow was tugging him out the door.
They turned left, but Brian couldn't help but glance to their right, and saw a guy in leather and zippers walking purposefully toward them. "Know a

Brian was still staring at it. Sometimes he tried to think about what had happened, and what he should do. Sometimes he felt like an idiot, and even less like a hero than he had during their adventures as a kid. They didn't. Though there was one that looked a bit like the Big Dipper.
Finally he sat up and stretched the kinks out of his back. He leaned over and touched Rainbow's shoulder. "Hey whoa!" He jumped back and just barely missed a busted lip from both her fist as she swung reflexively, and her head as she shot upright.
"You startled me," she said. Brian decided that was as close to an apology as he was going to get.
"Sorry," he said. "I just it's morning."
She glanced at the window. "Yeah. I see that."
"Well, I was just wondering...
Achromatic 1.4Rainbow woke in a panic, wondering who she was in bed with this time. No one, she realized, and relaxed until she remembered Brian and thought to wonder where he went. She could hear some light snoring coming from below; she leaned over and saw him curled up around the single pillow, hugging it like a teddy bear. She'd yet to see a man sleeping like that; most of the ones she'd met just sprawled where they lay, if they didn't just immediately get up and leave. None of them had looked so... childlike. Yet he was so different from what she remembered. Not just the hair, or his height... he seemed to jump from boy to adult as if he wasn't sure which he was. She couldn't figure out whether to trust him or not.Achromatic 1.4 by KayQy
"Hey," she said. She slid a leg out from under the sheet (had he seriously tucked her in?) and nudged him with her foot. He mumbled something unintelligible and rolled over; this time she kicked him lightly in the shoulder. "You awake?"
"Bwuh?" He blinked sleepily at the toes that we
